Child Death Rapid Response Process

It is a requirement that staff undertaking this course will have completed AWARENESS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT or Refresher within last 3 years

 

Aim

This course is designed to look at the basic skills needed to carry out inter agency enquiries into an unexpected child death in accordance with Chapter 7 Guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010).

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the ‘Rapid Response’ processes
  • Appreciate the roles and responsibilities of professionals involved
  • Understand the importance of information sharing
  • Appreciate the nature and importance of providing support and supporting family members
  • Act upon suspicious circumstances surrounding a child’s death
  • Understand the links with existing organisations

Target staff

  • Front line practitioners who will be involved in the Rapid Response process when an unexpected child death occurs
  • Primarily this is aimed at Police investigators and members of the Police Public Protection Teams, Paediatricians at consultant or final year speciality training level, and specialist Nurses/Health Visitors, Children and Families Social Workers who will be involved in Rapid Responses
  • This training is also relevant to other members of the Rapid Responses Team, including Paramedics, Social Workers, Substance misuse workers and Bereavement Support Workers
