It is a requirement that staff undertaking this course will have AWARENESS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT or Refresher within last 3 years


To increase understanding of how children develop and provide an introduction to attachment theory and its relationship to our understanding of children's behaviour.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Be able to recognise that each child is an individual who has the right to achieve their full potential.
  • Have an understanding of the concepts and ideas involved in identifying children's developmental needs and providing appropriate services.
  • Describe the notion of patterns of attachment
  • Describe the relationship between parenting patterns and attachment patterns.
  • Be able to relate children's behaviour to attachment patterns
